Funding cancelled

After watching this wonderful production at the Donmar Warehouse, the man next to me turned and said: "And they've cancelled their funding. It's disgusting!"

I couldn't agree more. Last month, Arts Council England cut £50 million worth of grants in London in order to support organisations around the country. It's part of the levelling up initiative which, in itself, is a worthy idea.

However, to cut funding at a stroke and with no warning is devastating not only for the Donmar but also the English National Opera and others.

London's cultural organisations contribute billions to the UK economy. Levelling up should not be at their cost.
